Affinity Groups
Purpose
Opportunity for finance personnel to meet with
their peers from other jurisdictions to discuss issues of common
interest. An Affinity Group provides a forum for members to
explore these common interest issues and share how their
jurisdictions are handling the issues.
Chair
The Chair of each Affinity Group will be
responsible for assembling topics for each meeting, preparing the
agenda, keeping the discussion focused and orderly so the attendees
will receive the maximum benefit of investing their time at each
meeting.
Meeting Attendance
A MD GFOA Active Member or their designee and a
MD GFOA Associate Member that is interested in promoting the
practice of government financial management, and furthering the
purpose and objectives of the Association may attend the meetings.
Anyone other than those noted above must be invited to a specific
meeting by the Affinity Group Chair. Meetings are to be
announced to the general membership via email or newsletter by the
Association headquarters with an RSVP required.
New Affinity Group
If a MD GFOA Active Member feels there is a need
to establish a new Affinity Group, the member should submit a
recommendation, through a current Board member, to the Board of
Directors. The Board will review and discuss the
recommendation and communicate its decision to form a new Affinity
Group to the membership, if that is the decision. If the
decision is made not to establish a new Affinity Group, this will be
communicated to the member that initially submitted the
recommendation.
