About MD GFOA
Maryland GFOA is a non-profit association of State, local and private
financial management professionals and is the local chapter of its international
affiliate, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United
States and Canada. With over 800 members, the MDGFOA is dedicated to
the sound management of government financial resources.
Membership
Membership in MD GFOA is open to everyone whose career, studies or interests
involve government financial management. Its public members form a diverse
group of individuals—from entry-level employees to senior managers—who
work for a broad range of governments, including the State, county, city and other towns and municipalities
of all sizes from all Maryland regions and all states. Membership also includes representatives
from accounting and actuarial firms, banks, and investment and consulting
institutions.
Membership Services
Members regularly take advantage of the following MD GFOA programs,
services and training to help strengthen their professional skills and
keep up-to-date on developments in their field:
Newsletter - Published quarterly, the MD GFOA newsletter
includes articles on upcoming events, technical training opportunities,
conferences and other matters of mutual interest.
Conferences—Held quarterly, MDGFOA sponsors
conferences at which members are exposed to a wide range of timely topics
and which provide an excellent forum for networking with colleagues
from all across the State.
Training—Periodically, MD GFOA conducts technical
training sessions from basic accounting to advanced accounting, including
recently issued government pronouncements.
Affinity Groups—On a continuing basis, MD GFOA
forms affinity groups who meet regularly to discuss issues of mutual
interest in specialized areas, such as tax collections, cash management,
investments and debt management.
CPE—Annually, MD GFOA provides members the opportunity
to earn continuing professional education credits at a very economical
price.
Scholarships—MD GFOA provides scholarship opportunities
to outstanding entry-level government employees to attend its summer
conference.
